At first glance, this quote from Anne Lamott feels cynical and jaded. However, I think it’s just plain ‘ol realistic.

Believe the best in people, but set the expectation bar somewhat low. Go into each relationship not convinced you will be hurt, but rather with a balanced sense of awareness that it is indeed possible, and, well, that’s OK. Just deal with it.
